Bookkeeper turns entrepreneurial leap into community impact
Maddie Craig, a 2015 Business Administration graduate, has leveraged her career as a bookkeeping business owner to empower her community. Combining business savvy and empathy, Maddie has become a sought-after leader and entrepreneur in the Fargo-Moorhead area and has received recognition as an ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø Foundation 2025 10 Under 10 Awardee.
As the founder of Blue Cypher Bookkeeping, Maddie supports nonprofits and small businesses by helping them make sense of their financials and build sustainable operations. After working as a grants manager, Maddie saw firsthand how nonprofits struggled to present financial information effectively, inspiring her to launch her own firm and meet that need with clarity and compassion.
Since founding her business, Maddie has provided pro bono services to local nonprofits, partnered with the Women’s Business Center to offer training, and spoken at events like Startup Brew and She Starts Week. Her leadership style is rooted in integrity and care, standing up for her team and clients, even if it means walking away from business.
In 2022, she was selected for the United Way's 35 Under 35 Women's Leadership Program, and in 2023, Blue Cypher was named to the inaugural Woodard Top 50 Accounting Services Practices list.
Maddie lives in Fargo, North Dakota, where she continues to grow her business, advocate for financial empowerment, and build up her community thoughtfully.
