Allana Cristina Martins is a new assistant professor of organic chemistry in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department.

Q: What drew you to Moorhead? 
A: The energy drew me to ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø. Everyone behaves like a big family, and I could feel myself fitting in right away. I love that everyone is ready to help at any time, and the same goes for the students feeling comfortable to talk to me.

Q. What unique experience of skills from your past job do you bring to ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø? 
A. When I was a Ph.D. student, I would work with students of many different backgrounds and cultures. This brought me outside my own bubble and helped me understand students better.

Q: How do you prefer to start your workday? 
A. I like to start with coffee. Then I organize all my to-do lists. I am very organized and love to plan.

Q. What is one thing people may not know about you? 
A. I used to play professional handball in Brazil when I was 9.

Q. What is your favorite place to eat in the Fargo-Moorhead area? 
A. My favorite place is Drunken Noodle. They serve Asian food such as rice bowls and ramen, but they also serve American food such as mac and cheese and different pasta dishes.

Q. If you could choose a superpower what would it be and why? 
A. I would like to read people’s minds. I am an overthinker so it would be nice to know what others are always thinking about me.
