Minnesota State Moorhead student leverages AI to start his own business

While rise of artificial intelligence (AI) may intimidate some businesses, Moorhead student Zachary Moore is getting ahead of the curve and helping businesses thrive with the use of AI.

Zach is a sophomore majoring in computer science and cybersecurity, with a minor in business. He is heavily involved on campus, as a member of the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), a board member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and research assistant under Andrew Chen, working on the new language model (LM).

Zach knew that he wanted to attend Moorhead because of the location and campus culture. He was captivated by the trees and greenery of the Red River Valley. And he was drawn in by how invested professors and students are in the CSIS program.

He credits much of his progress to the personal connections available at Moorhead. “My student success advisor has been so incredibly helpful.”

Inspired independence and initiative have changed how Zach approaches both his studies and work. In fact, with the skills he learned at Moorhead, Zach founded his own business.

Moore AI is an AI integration and consulting company for businesses looking to grow with the support of AI.

“We work with startups to large-scale businesses,” he says. “The biggest misconception about AI is that it can do everything for you, in reality, effective AI systems have to be around 50 to 70 percent software.”

To Zach, AI is a means to enhance efficiency, not eliminate employment.

That is where Moore AI comes into play. They analyze how businesses could grow and set up personalized software that supports that growth. This includes websites, databases, evaluations, and more.

Zach hopes Moore AI will remain rooted in Moorhead, meaning worked and made by the students for the time being.

“In years to come, I hope to have a physical location with more employees to strengthen the team and ensure AI is integrated effectively and safely,” he says.

Zach also plans to work with Moorhead’s Institute for Applied AI to equip students with the knowledge and understanding of opportunities that AI brings to the table. When Moorhead prepares students across all majors to use AI effectively and responsibly, they will be sought after in the job market.
